Congratulations to Dr. Wang Hsiang-Tsui’s Graduate Students on Receiving the Institute of Pharmacology Publication Scholarship!

Dr. Wang has dedicated her research to exploring the impact of the environmental toxin acrolein on various diseases, including cancer and metabolic disorders. Recently, she expanded her focus from studying the harmful effects of endogenous acrolein to establishing immune-related research in her lab. Over the past five years, Dr. Wang has published extensively in international journals, with many of her students earning scholarships in recognition of their contributions.

For example, a recent cancer study from her lab demonstrated that acrolein inhibits neutrophil function by modifying AKT Cys310, which reduces their tumor-killing ability and promotes glioma progression. In the field of metabolic disease, her research has shown that acrolein modifies PKM2 Cys358, leading to toxin accumulation in the kidneys and impairing renal function. Furthermore, acrolein has been found to inhibit AKT phosphorylation in muscle and adipose cells, contributing to insulin resistance and accelerating diabetes progression.

We also congratulate Professor Wang on her promotion to full professor in August 2024, and commend her for leading her team to remarkable achievements in immune oncology and endocrinology research.
